High Holy Day Reading List

September 19, 2016

This year in preparation for the High Holy Days I wanted to provide a reading list. Perhaps to be read before the Holy Days, to get you in the mood, or to print off and read during services. This list is far from comprehensive, just the beginning of the journey

Books

Days of Awe: A Treasury of Jewish Wisdom for Reflection, Repentance, and Renewal on the High Holy Days – S.Y Agnon

The Days Between: Blessings, Poems, and Directions of the Heart for the Jewish High Holiday Season by Marcia Falk

This Is Real and You Are Completely Unprepared: The Days of Awe as a Journey of Transformation – Alan Lew

  1. Dr. Maya Wertheimer says

    Hello, Rabbi Abraham.
You may remember me as Morah Maya.
My comment might not relate at all, but I still think I would like to give it a shot…
My husband Alexander, out little dog Kliopa, and I are currently not in the states since the time my husband needed a different type of care.
However, as I read every bit of information I receive from Beth El, it encourages us to live our lives as Jews as well as to keep our perspective real even though we do not have the luxury of a decent Internet connection, as we say in Yiddish, a fash-tun-ke-ne Internet.
This coming Rosh Hashanah I strongly feel to say hello to all the people I care about, all the students and adults; people I taught, talked to, met and chatted, and maybe even helped… somehow.
Please convey this simple message of Peace, Health, Gratitude, Admiration, and Hope from all the Jewish people in Shanghai and our family.
    Rosh Hashanah Briah U’Metuka.
    Be’Ahava, Morah Maya.

Three problems, in increasing order of seriousness. @JohnCavanaughNE

1. DMFI is not AIPAC. AIPAC is a bipartisan lobby with a separate super PAC; DMFI was founded in 2019 by Democratic strategists *in explicit response* to declining Democratic support for Israel. It endorsed
